Although the difficult times in which we’ve been living for the past 10 months continue, the combination of a new administration in Washington and the emergence of Covid vaccines are certainly very hopeful signs.
The SFPRG listserv was buzzing with valuable information about where and how to get vaccinated. It’s been impressive to see how magnanimous members have been in helping each other navigate the often confusing pathways to secure a vaccine appointment. I hope that members will continue to take advantage of the listserv and other SFPRG resources for help with clinical, educational, research, and other related professional issues.

Finally and with a very heavy heart, I regret to inform you that Cynthia Shilkret, one of the founding members of SFPRG, died on February 3 after a brief battle with metastatic cancer. After earning her PhD in clinical psychology at SUNY Buffalo, she began her clinical training at Mount Zion Hospital. She worked closely with Hal Sampson and Joe Weiss and became one of the original members of the Mount Zion Psychotherapy Research Group (now SFPRG). Cynthia quickly became a highly esteemed therapist, teacher, and clinical supervisor in San Francisco. She met Bob Shilkret, who spent a sabbatical year at Mount Zion, and they married in 1979. She then relocated to Massachusetts where she quickly became a sought after therapist, supervisor, and faculty member at Smith College School of Social Work.
Through her clinical work, teaching, and writing Cynthia touched many lives. She will be sorely missed and will be remembered as a blessing. Donations in Cynthia Shilkret’s memory may be made to SFPRG, using thislinkor to the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA.
