SFPRG Newsletter September 2020

It’s hard to believe that fall is already here and that most of us have spent the last 6 months working and hanging out on Zoom.  These are truly strange, crazy times!  I’m hearing from more and more people who are trying to bring some semblance of normality into their work lives and one approach that’s helping is to do their teletherapy sessions from their psychotherapy offices rather than their homes.  I have certainly found it helpful to do most of my therapy and supervision sessions from the office and apparently many of the therapists in my building feel similarly. The quiet calm of the office, fast internet service, and the privacy of the office can be difficult to replicate at home.  If the teletherapy work is starting to wear on you, try returning to the office!  And for those who need or are looking for offices we have some lovely office space available at SFPRG in the Presidio. There is something truly special about being able to work in an urban national park.  If you or someone you know want to experience the magic of working in the Presidio, get in touch with Jacky for details.

The SFPRG Education committee has been very busy organizing a wide variety of educational experiences.  Our recent conference on Moral Injury and the Master Clinician Case Conferences have been very well received and more are on the way.  There are some clear advantages of offering classes online: it’s convenient, easy to schedule, and the costs are minimal, not to mention that it’s the only way conferences can be offered right now.  I’d like to draw your attention to two events coming up.  On Tuesday, September 22, 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm, the international Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration (SEPI) is presenting an online conference on Becoming a More Effective Therapist: Using Reliable, Personalized Case Formulations where David Kealy and I will present.  This event is free, but registration is required.  More information here.

On Monday, October 5, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, SFPRG is offering a conference on Spirituality in Psychotherapy and CMT with Rev. Dr. Rachel Rivers and David Bullard, PhD.  Rachel and David have been connected with CMT for several decades and both are involved in various aspects of spiritual practice – Rachel as a Swedenborgian minister and a pastoral psychotherapist and David as a psychologist with many years of Buddhist practice and teaching.  This conference promises to be a very stimulating as well as enlightening event!  It is free but, advanced registration is required. Click here for details and registration.

I encourage you to frequently check the SFPRG website (www.sfprg.org) as we will be posting more upcoming educational, clinical, and social events. We also regularly update our publications page with recently published papers.  And for those of you who are SFPRG members, there is a weekly psychotherapy case conference that is enjoyable and enriching.  We meet (online) every Tuesday at 11:30 am - 12:45 pm.

Finally, I want to share this invitation from Paul and Anne Steinberg regarding the upcoming Zoom memorial for beloved SFPRG member Stanley Steinberg: “We look forward to seeing you for the celebration of the life of our father, Dr. Stanley Steinberg, on Saturday, September 26. It will be a chance for us to share stories and thoughts, to say goodbye, and to affirm his living memory.”  Click here for details and to RSVP: Evite

Stay safe everyone and be well.

George
